ThesCon, or the Colorado State Thespian Conference, is a three-day convention that takes place every year in December. At ThesCon, students are able to take master classes from renowned members of the theater community on auditioning, singing, acting, dancing, directing, stage managing, and much more.

Sophomores who attended Thescon their freshman year, and all juniors and seniors, are eligible to perform in an Individual Event (also called an IE). IE's allow students to showcase their talents and perform in front of a judge, either solo or with friends. While IEs must be screened by Mrs. Stacks before they are approved to be performed at Thescon, IEs can include monologues, musical theater, duet/group musical theater, duet/group acting, Tech Challenge, Improv Frenzy, costumes, lighting, and so on.

All students that attend, whether performing an IE or not, are allowed to attend workshops. Across the entire trip, there are about 10 different sessions that thespians are encouraged to attend. While many different workshops happen during the same session, students can only attend one at a time. Workshops are led by experts and professionals, and their topics can range from singing and acting workshops and dancing classes to props, lights, and costume designs. Both cast and crew will be able to find a session they’ll enjoy with other thespians from across Colorado!

What do we do there?

Since Thescon is a 3 day friend trip that lasts from Thursday to Saturday, we spend two nights in a hotel by the convention center in Denver where Thescon takes place.

After attending school for half of the day on Thursday, we get on a bus, drive to Denver, check into our hotel, and head off to the first two or three sessions of the conference. That night, there will be an opening ceremony on Mainstage, and a pre-selected high school from Colorado will also perform a play.

Friday will be a full day of sessions - seven or eight, with a break for lunch. Friday night will have a second, different pre-selected high school perform a musical on Mainstage.

After packing up our belongings on Saturday, there are a few more sessions before closing ceremonies. Around 20 IEs that have been rated very highly in the past few days by the judges will be performed (or displayed, for tech IEs) on Mainstage for all high schools attending. After closing ceremonies, we get on a bus again and return to Legacy Saturday afternoon.

When is it?

Thescon will be held December 7th-9th this year. Students who go are excused from class for the second half of Thursday and the entirety of Friday. Students return Saturday afternoon. Transportation (buses) will be provided to and from Denver as part of the trip.

Where is it?

Thescon is located in downtown Denver. While the workshops are located in the Colorado Convention Center, and Mainstage events are performed in the Bellco Theater that is connected to the convention center, we will be staying in Embassy Suites for both nights, which is a very short walk from the convention center.

How much does it cost? *note: this is subject to change

In total, ThesCon costs $265 per student. This includes registration for the conference, the bus to and from Denver, and the hotel room. Money for food will need to be provided by the student. We want everyone who desires to go to ThesCon to go, so scholarships are also available to students (see Important Documents page).

Can I go?

This year, there is a prerequisite for thespians to be allowed to go. Participation in the Showcase (details can be found in the section above) is mandatory in order to attend Thescon. If you have a busy schedule and are unable to make the Showcase work in any way, but still want to go to Thescon, please email or talk to an officer so we can help you find a solution. We would like everyone who wants to go to Thescon to be able to attend!

Am I going to be alone?

Of course not, you will be with Legacy students and chaperones during the entire trip. All students will be split into rooming groups (not co-ed) and assigned chaperones. While outside of the convention center and hotel (going back and forth or getting meals), students must stay with their group and chaperone at all times. While inside of the convention center, students must be with at least one other Legacy student at all times.
